Music to Level Up Your Day: Dark Souls

I don't know much about musical theory, nor am I a musically inclined person. However, I do love to listen to video game soundtracks. Who doesn't? They can be a powerful listening experience in their own right, or be as evocative as the scores composed for film. Each of these posts will feature music tracks from a single game title, or series/franchise in some rare cases.

Composer: Motoi Sakuraba
North American Release Date: September 2011

Dragons ruled the world during the "Age of Ancients", until three of Four Lords: Gwyn (Lord of Sunlight), Nito (First of the Dead), and the Witch of Izalith used their power to destroy the dragons and take control over the world. Meanwhile the Furtive Pygmy was forgotten, thus beginning the "Age of Fire." Humanity, having been created from the Furtive Pygmy's Dark Soul, is left afflicted with an undead curse, perpetually resurrecting after death until they eventually lose their minds in a process referred to as "hollowing".
