I don't know much about musical theory, nor am I a musically inclined person. However, I do love to listen to video game soundtracks. Who doesn't? They can be a powerful listening experience in their own right, or be as evocative as the scores composed for film. Each of these posts will feature music tracks from a single game title, or series/franchise in some rare cases.
Composer: Akira YamaokaNorth American Release Date: September 2001
The plot revolves around James Sunderland and his interactions with the strange people and creatures that inhabit the hellish town of Silent Hill. They force James to look in the mirror and reconcile with his own past misdeeds.
Yamaoka wanted to surprise the player with different sounds to create an unsettling environment. To achieve this Yamaoka used sound effects ranging from screams to footsteps on broken glass, and incorporated occasional silence, commenting that "moments of silence is another way of producing sound".
