I don't know much about musical theory, nor am I a musically inclined person. However, I do love to listen to video game soundtracks. Who doesn't? They can be a powerful listening experience in their own right, or be as evocative as the scores composed for film. Each of these posts will feature music tracks from a single game title, or series/franchise in some rare cases.
Composer: Woody Jackson and Daniel Lanois
North American Release Date: October 2018
After a botched ferry heist in 1899, the Van der Linde gang are forced to leave their money stash and flee Blackwater. Realizing the advance of civilization is ending the time of the outlaws, the gang decides to focus on gathering enough money to escape the law or retire. The assets of wealthy oil magnate Leviticus Cornwall become a gang target, prompting Cornwall to recruit a team of agents from the Pinkerton Detective Agency, led by Andrew Milton and his subordinate Edgar Ross, to hunt down the gang.
Woody Jackson, who had previously worked on other Rockstar game scores, purchased several instruments from the Wrecking Crew that were featured in classic cowboy films. He decided to give Red Dead 2 three different types of music score: narrative (heard during missions), interactive (roaming the open world), and environmental (campfire songs). Daniel Lanois produced the vocal tracks for the game.
